You can manage virtually all of these steps directly from the Capital One Mobile app. It’s the fastest way to stay on top of your account, payments, rewards, and security settings all in one place.
Post-Activation Checklist
1
Set up your online account or download the app
If you haven’t already, create your Capital One online account at capitalone.com or download the Capital One Mobile app. Your online account is your hub for managing payments, viewing statements, tracking spending, and more. Even if you activated by phone, setting up online access is well worth the few minutes it takes.
2
Enable autopay to avoid late fees
One of the smartest things you can do is set up autopay right away. Head to the Payments section of your account or the app and schedule automatic payments — either the minimum payment, a fixed amount, or the full balance each month. This ensures you never miss a due date and helps protect your credit score.
3
Set up account alerts for fraud protection
Capital One lets you customize alerts so you’re notified of activity on your account in real time. In the app or online, navigate to Account Alerts or Notifications and enable alerts for:
- Large or unusual purchases
- Purchases made outside the U.S.
- Card-not-present transactions
- Payments posted or declined
4
Explore and enroll in your rewards program
Depending on which Capital One card you have, you may earn cash back, miles, or points on every purchase. Take a few minutes to explore the Rewards section of your account to understand how you earn, what your redemption options are, and whether there are any welcome bonus requirements you need to meet. Some cards also offer rotating bonus categories or partner perks worth activating.
5
Add your card to a digital wallet
For fast, secure, contactless payments, add your new Capital One card to Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay. You can do this directly from the Capital One app by navigating to your card details and selecting Add to Wallet, or through your device’s native wallet app. Digital wallet payments use tokenization, which adds an extra layer of security by never sharing your actual card number with merchants.
